The Propagation in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria through the Ministry of Peter’s Company (11)

Witness Lee expounds the progressive revelation of Christ as a stone for God’s building throughout the scriptures. We explore aspects of Christ as the cornerstone of God’s universal habitation, as the stumbling stone, and as the smiting stone. Peter’s personal knowledge and experience of Christ as the stone is also fellowshipped (Acts 4:8-12). Two contrasting scenes presented at the end of Acts 4 and the beginning of Acts 5 are explored in today’s programme. Positively, the believers had all their material possessions in common. Negatively we consider the case of Annanias and Sapphira who because of ambition lied to the Holy Spirit, and whose example provide important lessons for us in the church life today (Acts 4:32- 5:12).

Today we focus on Acts 5:17-42, concerning the Sanhedrin’s arrest of the apostles and the Lord’s miraculous release from prison. When thrust before a large gathering following a supernatural event, once again we see how Peter did not emphasise any kind of “miracle” ministry but pointed them to “the words of this life” (5:20) This significance of this term, and the apostle’s testimony of Christ as the Leader and Saviour (5:31) is fully unfolded.
