Today Witness Lee looks at the spread of the gospel to Phoenicia, Cyprus and Antioch in Acts 11:19-30. In particular, we will consider the Lord’s further preparation of Saul of Tarsus as a chosen vessel to bring the New Testament ministry to the gentiles, and how the ministries of Peter and Paul demonstrate the principle of one stream or flow in God’s work.
Much more than being simply a book of history or the spreading of the gospel, Acts unveils the great transition from the Old Testament dispensation of the law to the New Testament dispensation of grace! We will consider the opening of the door of the gospel to the non-Jewish world as a landmark event in the history of God’s move (Acts 11:1-18). When was Christ crucified for us? On the one hand, He was crucified 2,000 years ago however how do we understand Rev. 13:8, which states that Christ was slain from the foundation of the world? Within this apparent paradox lies a marvellous realization that will greatly benefit how we approach many aspects of our Christian life. We consider six eternal items in God’s economy and how they can be applied to us in time.
In Acts 1:5 the Lord told the disciples that they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit. This event - occurring exactly two times in the New Testament - has been debated, promoted and profoundly misunderstood. On this Life-study programme we explore Stephen’s testimony and martyrdom in Acts 7. The significance of his beginning with the calling of the “God of glory” and concluding with the tabernacle of God is insightfully opened up. We will also see how the intense persecution against the church in Jerusalem issued in a prevailing spreading of the gospel.
The martyrdom of Stephen and the great dispensational change from God’s Old Testament economy to His New Testament economy is the subject of today’s programme (Acts 7). Witness Lee expounds the transfer from the old dispensation of the law and the temple to the new dispensation, and considers how this dispensational change applies to us today.
