Award winning Nigerian gospel artist reported dead

Well-known gospel artist Sammie Okposo has been reported dead this morning. Sammie, 51, is said to have died in Lagos, Nigeria. Friends in the UK were alerted to his death at 9:30am GMT. The international music artist, known for his songs such as Welu Welu, Sing Hallelujah and Naija Praise, is one of the most popular artists to come out of the continent of Africa and has been active in the music industry since 1992. He released his first album, Addicted, in 2004 and has collaborated with many other artists in both the gospel and soul fields. His most recent album, The Statement, was released in 2018 and produced by Grammy-winning Kevin Bond. The cause of death has not been released by the family.
