The 2025 BET Awards, a major annual event celebrating Black excellence in music and entertainment, highlighted the influence of God and gospel music in powerful ways.
1. Kirk Franklin, a leading figure in gospel music, received the Ultimate Icon Award. In his acceptance speech, Franklin humbly pointed to God's grace: “I am not perfect. I fail, I sin, I am not a perfect Christian, I’m not a perfect husband, and we all know I’m not a perfect father. I’m not even a perfect artist because I can’t even sing, which makes this award even more amazing, because what I really do don’t make sense and if you’re listening to this that’s when you know it’s God—when it don’t make sense.
2. ”Franklin closed the ceremony with a medley of his gospel hits, joined by Tamar Braxton, Muni Long, Jamal Roberts, and Salt from Salt-N-Pepa.
3. Jamie Foxx also offered a moving testimony, reflecting on a recent health crisis. He shared how his daughter, Anelise, brought her guitar to his hospital room during a critical moment, saying, "I realized God was in her guitar." Foxx credited this moment, and God's presence, for his recovery.
