We recently had the incredible opportunity to speak with Kanya King, the recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Gospel Music Award and founder of the MOBO Awards. In this exclusive interview, she shares her thoughts on being honoured by the genre she has championed for so long and her vision for the future of gospel music. Kanya expressed her gratitude and humility upon receiving recognition for her life-long efforts in celebrating and honouring others in the world of gospel music. She acknowledges that while awards are not her primary motivation, being appreciated by her peers and community brings immense joy and validation.
Gospel music has remained a steadfast presence at the MOBO Awards despite black music genres often being cyclical and subject to changing trends. Kanya believes that gospel music's enduring nature is due to its message of faith, love, and positivity. As someone with a deep faith herself, she is committed to promoting these values through gospel music despite any challenges that may arise. Looking ahead, Kanya shared some exciting plans for the MOBO Awards' continued growth and evolution. Among these initiatives are MOBO Help Musicians Fund a funding opportunity specifically aimed at supporting diverse talent in their craft. She encourages more gospel artists to apply for this funding to help them achieve their full potential. Additionally, the MOBO organisation is set to launch a mentoring programme in a few months aimed at helping talents make their mark in various fields such as film, fashion, music, and finance. This programme will be designed to break down barriers for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. With numerous activities planned throughout the year from MOBO Unsung to creative platforms like Mobilise Kanya's vision for supporting diverse talent is inspiring and ambitious. If you're a gospel artist looking for support and opportunities, be sure to check out MOBO Help Musicians Fund and get involved. We wholeheartedly congratulate Kanya King on her well-deserved Outstanding Contribution to Gospel Music Award and thank her for sharing her passion and wisdom in this insightful interview.Gospel Music is about positivity, and spreading faith and love. And so that's why I'm pleased to be able to champion it.
