As believers seeking a deeper understanding of who Jesus really is, we must go deeper than religious definitions. Jesus Christ wasn’t simply a man sent by God, but the creator, Himself, in human form. Jesus’ mission was to deliver eternal grace and truth to mankind, and He was the only one able to do so. He’s preeminent and can’t be compared to Moses, who gave the law, because He’s far greater. There’s no one higher; having a personal relationship with Him gives us an eternal perspective.

Believers know that there’s a difference between living and simply existing. Choosing to believe in Jesus Christ elevates us from a point where we simply exist to a state where we experience abundant life; believing is the condition for receiving eternal life. To receive Christ also means to receive God’s unmerited, undeserved favor and His truth. The beauty and power of grace is that it doesn’t operate according to what we do, but according to what Jesus already did, and our faith in it.

The faith that God gave us when we got born again was a gift from Him. We received it without having to work for it; this faith gives us victory over the natural world we live in. Our salvation includes healing, deliverance, prosperity, peace, joy, wholeness, and everything else we need; faith is our positive response to what grace has done. Regardless of what we struggle to believe, God’s perfect and complete belief remains unaffected and rock steady.

Believers have received gifts from God that the world doesn’t have. One of those gifts is His perfect and complete faith. This faith is vastly better than our imperfect faith, which is constantly in the process of being refined and developed. It’s embodied in Jesus Christ and based on His finished works, which means we can rest from our labors and simply receive what God has already done. Choosing to rest instead of struggle is the way we celebrate God’s finished works.

Having the perfect and complete faith of Jesus Christ gives us an advantage over religious people who rely on their own imperfect faith. This kind of faith is based on His finished works and doesn’t depend on our own works or self-efforts. Jesus is faith, and is God’s gift to us that we must receive; believing that God loves us so much that He gave us His only Son puts our lives in a whole new light. Trusting that Jesus did all the work necessary lets us rest.

God sees believers as unconditionally righteous, with no need to work for their justification in His eyes. This differs from the religious mindset that many of us have been taught, which says that we must labor to please Him, first, before He’ll accept or approve of us. What we believe makes a huge difference in what we do. What traps people in self-effort is their focus on what they must do to bring about their salvation, instead of what God has already done through Jesus Christ.

Correctly dividing God’s Word of faith is essential for us if we’re to avoid falling into the trap of self-effort in our belief. Having faith in God could lead us to think that we must do something to develop our own faith; this is different than having the faith of God, which He offers to us as a gift with no need to earn it. We receive this gift when we receive Jesus, who is a reflection of God’s faith in human form.
